Anyone who knows me realizes that my plans change every week. One week I'm starting a business the next I'm working on a video. I have a lot of ideas and I struggle with follow through and focus.
But I've tricked myself this time. I'm creating an eBook for experimental purposes to understand how the self-publishing world works. I want to understand all the steps, which will include designing a book cover, creating an Amazon Author Central Profile, DRM management (I've decided not to add DRM to my title because I don't really believe in it and experts advise me not to). ISBN numbers, creating an author video, and the list goes on. There's a lot to this process and I'm determined to do it. I do hope that people will want to read my eBook but the truth is, I don't have high hopes. I'm competing with a lot of writers and I've never written a book before. Recently, though, I feel that I have too much to say. I've also got my back up against the wall and have decided to just expose my trembling guts to the world and see what happens.
I plan on self-publishing it via Smashwords and Amazon. I've got some great teachers and advisors for this process so I'm looking forward to doing it.
The image you see here is a rough sketch of the cover image. The book title is Use Your Imagination Before Someone Eats It and it's a guidebook for losers and victims. In each chapter I reveal a horrible real-life experience and then I provide the steps you need to take to get out of a similar jam.
Here are the chapters so far:
1. How to use your imagination to get out of any desperate situation.
2. How to overcome an addiction
3. How to give up and ask for help.
4. How to manage fear.
5. How to be authentic in a fake world.
6. How to find work even if you feel like a complete loser.
7. How to create a self-sustaining income on the internet.
8. How to daydream successfully.
9. How not to go insane as a single mother.
10. How to create a YouTube channel if you're intelligent and female.
11. How to live on practically nothing.
12. Free ideas: please use them!
If you think one of the chapters needs to go, please let me know in the comments section below. I'm relying on feedback to guide this book.
I started writing this book over 3 months ago and have changed the format several times. I'm now focused on completing the book and then getting it edited soon.
Stay tuned for updates. Also, I'll be designing two different covers that I'll be unleashing to Facebook soon. You will be deciding which cover I use, so stick around. Additionally, I'll be releasing all my stats, good or bad from my future book sales. This will be done to help people see what's going on in the self-publishing world. I'll reveal everything, including how much money I'm making and the sales rank of this Ebook. I'll also reveal all the marketing steps I am taking before I release the book. James Altucher advises people to do a guest blog before releasing an ebook and I requested to do this on KCMeesha's blog . So far, I've been rejected but he recommended that I ask BlogHer. I will follow up with all recommendations.
FYI, I now write between 2 and 6 hours per day. In less than a week, I've completed about 75 handwritten pages. I will probably be done with my notebook in a week, then I will do the second revision in the computer. Next the editing. Next step is to create a book trailer and author video. Then the uploading to Smashwords and Amazon. Then completion of the author central profile on Amazon.
I'm really excited to finally get this done. After it's done, I look forward to teaching others how to go through this process. I'll be making some videos on self-publishing after I complete the steps myself.
Wish me luck to finish it.
